7 Reasons Why Your Acne Is Actually Strep Bacteria That Never Left Your Body

If your skin clears on the pills and the same cysts come back a few months after you stop, this page is for you.

Sarah's Skincare Blog Notes

Hello. I'm Sarah Johnsen.

If you're reading this, you've tried a lot. Creams. Antibiotics. The pill. Maybe Accutane, once or twice.

And here's the part that never made sense to you: it worked. For a few months your skin was clear. Then the same cysts came back, in the same spots along your jaw.

I've been doing this for eighteen years and I've read more than eight hundred acne case files. I see this same thing over and over.

It's not bad luck. It's not your hormones giving up. Something is still down there. And it has a name.

Strep. Short for Streptococcus. The same family of bacteria behind the strep throat you had as a kid.

You probably know this pattern:

  • Your skin clears on the antibiotics. Then it comes back a few months after you stop.
  • The same cysts. The same jaw. The same three or four places.
  • A round of Accutane that held for a while, and then didn't.
  • Skin that calms down for a week, then gets worse.

If even one of those is you, keep reading. The next seven minutes explain why.

Most people get told the same two things. It's hormonal. Your skin is oily.

Neither one explains why it comes back on a schedule.

Here's what does.

1. The First Round Worked. Nobody Explains Why It Stopped.

Think back to your first round of antibiotics.

Two weeks in, your skin calmed down. Maybe the clearest it had been in years. You finished the pills, the way the doctor told you to.

A few months later, the same cysts were back in the same places.

Now think about what that actually means. If those pills didn't work, your skin would never have cleared in the first place. But it did clear. So the pills worked. Something brought it back after you stopped.

The same thing happens with the strongest treatment a doctor can give you. In a study of 19,907 people who finished a full course of Accutane, half of them had their acne return within 7.5 months.

That's not a weak treatment. That's something the treatment never reached.

The rest of this page is about what that something is.

2. The Bacteria Make A Layer Of Slime. Antibiotics Can't Get Through It.

Here's what you probably never got told at the clinic.

The bacteria in your pores don't sit there one by one, waiting to be killed. They stick together in a group, and then they cover themselves in a layer of slime.

Scientists call that layer a biofilm. Bio means living, film means a thin layer. A thin layer, made by living bacteria, to cover themselves up.

That slime is the whole problem. Your white blood cells can't get through it. Antibiotics can't get through it either.

This isn't a theory someone came up with. Scientists have cut open acne spots and looked inside. The bacteria were sitting there, deep in the pore, under their own slime.

And it's not just the acne bacteria that do this. Strep is one of the best studied slime builders there is. Your dentist knows it as the bacteria that builds plaque on your teeth. Same move, different place.

So when your treatment "stopped working," it didn't stop working. It killed every bacteria it could reach. It just couldn't reach the ones under the slime.

3. Every Round You Took Made The Survivors Harder To Kill.

This is the part that's hard to hear.

Bacteria sitting under that slime are much harder to kill than the same bacteria out in the open. Some studies put it at hundreds of times harder. Same bacteria, same antibiotic. The only difference is the slime on top.

So every round of pills you took did the same thing. It killed the ones out in the open. The ones underneath waited it out.

Then you stopped taking the pills, and the ones that had been hiding started growing again.

Which means the bacteria you have now are the ones that were best at hiding.

Scientists checked this in acne patients and found exactly that. The bacteria that make the thickest slime are the same ones antibiotics work worst on.

You're not treating the acne you had at nineteen. You're treating what survived it.

4. Your Oily Skin Was Never The Problem.

You've been told your skin is too oily, so you need to dry it out.

Foaming wash. Toner. Clay mask. Blotting papers. Then something stronger, because the oil came back.

But your skin makes that oil on purpose. It's part of how your pore protects itself and slows down what's growing inside it.

When you strip the oil off, you don't remove the bacteria. You remove the protection. So your skin makes more oil to replace what you took, you call that oily skin, and you strip it off again.

That's been the cycle for years.

And none of it was ever going to work anyway. The bacteria are deep inside the pore, under their slime. Not on the surface, where your cleanser is.

5. It Started With The Strep Throat You Had As A Kid.

Think back further than your teens.

Strep throat that kept coming back. Ear infections all through primary school. Sinus infections every winter. The pink medicine, round after round, sometimes two or three times in one year.

Every one of those rounds did two things.

It killed the bacteria out in the open and left the protected ones sitting there. And it killed a lot of your good bacteria too, the ones that normally keep the bad ones from taking over.

And here's the question nobody at the clinic ever asked. Where did the Strep go? The pills cleared your throat. That doesn't mean every last one of them left your body.

So by the time your skin broke out at fifteen, or at twenty five, this had already been building for ten years or more.

That's why it never went away like a teenage phase does. A phase ends on its own. This got a little stronger every round.

6. When Your Liver Falls Behind, Your Skin Takes The Extra.

Here's how your gut ends up affecting your face.

Your liver cleans your blood. Used up hormones, waste from bacteria, things that came in with your food and your water. It pulls all of that out and sends it to your gut, so it leaves your body when you go to the bathroom.

When your liver keeps up with it, you never notice any of this happening.

When it falls behind, that waste has to go somewhere else. One of the places your body pushes it out is through your skin.

And that waste is also food. Bacteria like Strep don't need much to stay alive under their slime, but they need something. A body that can't clear its own waste keeps them fed.

It's why two people can have the exact same bacteria and only one of them breaks out.

7. Your Jawline Isn't Hormonal. It's Where Your Face Drains.

Look at where your spots actually are.

Along your jaw. Under your ears. Down the sides of your neck. The same few places, every single time.

You've been told that area is the hormonal zone. Here's another reason, and it fits the pattern much better.

Your body has small filters called lymph nodes. Their job is to clear waste fluid out of your tissue. You have a big group of them right along your jaw and neck, and that group drains your whole face.

And those filters don't just carry waste. They're also where bacteria like Strep get caught and cleared out.

When they're moving, all of that leaves and you never see it. When they're slow, it sits there. Right under the skin. In the same places your breakouts keep showing up.

So ask yourself this. Why is your acne always in those few spots, instead of spread evenly over your face? Hormones travel in your blood, and your blood goes everywhere. That can't explain a pattern this exact.

So What Actually Changes This?

Read those seven back and the same thing runs through all of them.

The bacteria, Strep among them. The slime on top of them. The waste your liver couldn't keep up with. The lymph nodes that slowed down. None of that is on the surface of your face.

That's why years of face products got you nowhere. You were treating the place it comes out, not the place it lives.

So I went looking for something that works on the inside instead. It took years. What I found is what we now sell as Clear Skin+ Max Detox™.

Black Walnut Hulls. These contain a compound called juglone. It's one of the few plant compounds that's been studied for breaking down the slime layer bacteria make. That testing was done in a lab, not on people's faces, and I'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.

Chlorella. A green algae. It grabs heavy metals so they leave your body instead of going back into your blood.

Psyllium. A plant fibre that clears out your gut, so your liver isn't taking back the waste it already got rid of.

Slippery Elm and Inulin. One coats the lining of your gut. The other feeds the good bacteria those childhood antibiotics wiped out.

Ginger Root and Aloe Ferox. Both calm swelling, so everything starts moving again.

Two capsules with water. That's the whole thing.

The Bottom Line

Your acne keeps coming back because nothing you've tried has gone near the thing causing it.

It isn't on your face. It never was.

It's bacteria that have been there for years. They're sitting under a layer of slime your antibiotics never got through. They're being fed by waste your body can't clear fast enough. And they're doing it in the one part of your face that drains the slowest.

Is this the Strep story from your feed? You've seen the videos. Acne is Strep living in your liver. Here's the honest version. What's proven is that bacteria survive antibiotics by hiding under slime, and Strep is one of the best at it. The liver part hasn't been proven on real faces. I'd rather tell you that straight than dress it up.

If yours comes back a few months after every treatment, the cream was never the problem.

Weeks 1 to 4 clear out the backlog. Weeks 1 to 8 rebuild your gut lining and the good bacteria you lost. $1.33 a day, and ninety days to change your mind.
