7 Reasons Your Desire Went Quiet. And Not One Of Them Is That You Stopped Loving Him.

If you have started saying you are tired before he even asks, if some small part of you felt relief the night he fell asleep first, and if you have quietly decided this is just who you are now, read this before you decide anything else. Here is what the research actually found, and what it says about you.

116 women in the zinc trial. Every dose on the label.

Femme Vital Journal Notes

Hello. I'm Claire Halvorsen.

I have spent sixteen years in women's hormone health, and in that time I have sat across from more than two thousand women. The ones I think about at night are not the ones with dramatic lab results. They are the ones who apologize.

They come in for thyroid, or sleep, or the weight that will not move. We get twenty minutes in. Then there is a pause, and they look at the floor, and it comes out sideways. This is probably nothing, but.

And then they tell me that they have not wanted their husband in two years. That they love him. That they cannot explain it. That they have started going to bed at different times on purpose.

Almost every one of them says a version of the same sentence: I think something is wrong with me.

I want to tell you what I tell them.

You probably know this loop:

  • You start managing the calendar in your head. Which nights are safe, which ones are not
  • You go up to bed twenty minutes later than him, and you tell yourself it is the laundry
  • He reaches over. Your whole body makes a decision in half a second, and lately it keeps deciding no
  • You say yes anyway sometimes, because it has been a while, and afterward you feel further away than before
  • You have googled this at 1am with the brightness turned all the way down. Twice. And closed the tab
  • You have never said it out loud to a doctor

If you recognized more than three of those, you are in the majority, and nobody told you.

Here is the part I need you to hear before anything else.

Desire is not a feeling you generate with willpower. It is a downstream signal.

It runs on free testosterone, on zinc and magnesium status, on how much cortisol your day left behind, and on whether your nervous system believes it is safe to want anything at all. Change any one of those and the signal changes with it.

Which means the question was never do I still love him. The question is what happened to the signal.

There are seven answers, and I have never met a woman who did not have at least three of them running at once.

1. Your Testosterone Started Falling In Your Late Twenties, And Nobody Ever Measured It

It was 1:14am when I finally went looking.

Not wellness blogs. Endocrinology journals. Cross-sectional hormone data on women at midlife.

What I found made me angry, and then it made sense of almost every conversation I had ever had in that room.

Testosterone is not a male hormone. It is a human hormone, and in women it is the primary driver of desire. Yours peaked in your mid twenties. A 2025 cross-sectional study of women at midlife found levels fall by roughly a quarter between eighteen and thirty-nine, and by roughly another quarter between forty and fifty-nine.

Read that again. The decline starts in your twenties. It is already well underway by the time anyone thinks to ask about it.

And here is the finding that should have changed how women are treated. In that same data there was no measurable difference between premenopausal, perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Age drove the decline. Menopause did not.

Which means every time a woman of thirty-eight was told you are too young for this to be hormonal, she was told something the data does not support.

You were not too young. You were unmeasured. Standard bloodwork almost never includes free testosterone in women, so the one number that best explains what happened to you is the one number nobody ran.

2. There Is A Trial Where Every Single Domain Improved, And You Have Never Heard Of It

I want to be careful here, because this space is full of people selling certainty they have not earned.

So here is the actual paper.

Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, 2021. One hundred and sixteen postmenopausal women, randomized, controlled. Every woman in it had low serum zinc and low sexual function at the start.

One group got zinc. One group did not.

The zinc group improved on desire. On arousal. On orgasm. On satisfaction. On moisture. On pain during sex. And on the total score. Every domain the questionnaire measures. p less than 0.001.

I will tell you the honest limitation too, because you deserve the whole thing. Testosterone rose in the zinc group as well, but the study could not prove the two were linked. The function improved. The mechanism is still being argued about.

And zinc keeps showing up. Separate meta-analyses have found it reduces the severity of period pain, and eases the physical and psychological load of PMS.

A mineral. Studied for decades. Cheap enough that nobody can build a franchise on it.

That is exactly why you were never handed a bottle of it.

3. You Have Been Graded Against A Model That Was Never Built For Your Body

Picture the version of desire you have been measuring yourself against. It goes: you feel like it, then you get turned on, then something happens.

Want first. Then touch.

That model came out of laboratory work done largely on men in the 1960s, and for about half a century it was simply assumed to describe everybody.

Then in 2002, Dr. Rosemary Basson published Women's Sexual Desire, Disordered Or Misunderstood, and it should have been on the front page of every women's magazine in the country.

What she showed is that for most women, especially women in long relationships, desire does not arrive first. It arrives second. Arousal begins, the body responds, and the wanting shows up after that. She called it responsive desire, and it is the normal pattern, not the broken one.

Sit with what that means for the last few years of your life.

You have been lying in the dark waiting to spontaneously feel like it, and taking the silence as proof that something in you had died. You were waiting for a signal that, for most women, was never designed to come first.

You are not broken. You were graded on the wrong test.

Two things are true at once, and both matter. Some of what you have been calling failure was never failure. And underneath that, there is still a real physical signal that has genuinely gotten quieter, and that one can be worked on.

4. Two Prescriptions Quietly Take It, And Almost Nobody Is Warned

This is the reason that makes women cry in my office, because it is the one where they realize how long they have been blaming the wrong thing.

The pill. Hormonal contraception raises a protein called SHBG, and SHBG binds up testosterone so your tissues cannot use it. Pooled data puts the drop at roughly thirty percent of total testosterone and closer to sixty percent of the free, usable kind. In studies of women on combined pills, sexual desire tracks down as SHBG tracks up. Somewhere between twenty-three and thirty percent of users report their libido fell.

The antidepressant. Roughly four in ten women on an SSRI report a sexual side effect when someone bothers to ask, and prevalence studies that ask carefully put it far higher. For some of the most commonly prescribed ones it lands above seventy percent.

Now put the two together, the way life actually stacks them. A woman goes on the pill at nineteen. She goes on an SSRI at thirty-one, in a hard year. By thirty-six she notices she never initiates anymore.

And what does she conclude? That the marriage went flat.

Not that two medications, both doing exactly what the literature says they do, have been quietly holding down the same signal for fifteen years.

Please hear the next sentence clearly. Do not stop a prescription because of an article. Not this one, not any one. Both of those medications exist because they do important work, and stopping either badly can cost you far more than it gives back. Bring this to the person who wrote the prescription and make them talk to you about it. That conversation is yours to have, and it is decades overdue.

5. The Load Nobody Counts As Work Is The One Taking It

You already know this one in your body. You just did not know there was research on it.

Archives of Sexual Behavior, 2022. Two studies, six hundred and seventy-seven women and three hundred and ninety-six women. The question was simple. Does who does the housework predict desire?

It does. The more of the household load a woman carried, the lower her desire for her partner. Significantly.

And then the researchers found the part that explains everything.

It was not the hours. It was not the tiredness. The effect ran through one specific perception: whether she had started to experience her partner as another person she was responsible for. In the first study that single perception accounted for roughly forty-three percent of the effect.

Read it plainly. Desire does not survive being someone's manager.

You cannot spend Tuesday tracking the dentist appointment, the field trip form, the fact that there is no milk, whose mother's birthday it is, and the exact location of the blue shoes, and then be expected to flip into wanting at 10:40pm. That is not a character flaw. That is a nervous system doing precisely what it was built to do.

Which brings me to the thing I most want to say to you.

Between the hormone curve you were never told about, the model you were wrongly graded against, the prescriptions nobody warned you about, and a load nobody counts as work, there is very little left over that could reasonably be called your fault.

6. What I Recommend, And Why This Aisle Is Built To Keep You Guessing

Walk down the supplement aisle and pick up any bottle aimed at women's vitality. Turn it around.

You will almost always find two words: proprietary blend.

Here is what that phrase actually buys. It lets a company print twenty impressive botanical names, list one combined milligram total, and never tell you how much of anything is in there. You cannot compare it to a single study, because you cannot see a single dose. That is not an oversight. That is the entire point.

The formula I point women to is Femme Vital+ Libido Bloom, and the reason is boring and specific. Nine ingredients. Every single one printed with its own milligram number. You can check it against the research yourself, which is exactly what I want you to do.

✅ Tribulus Terrestris, 750mg. That number is not decorative. It is the dose used in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in postmenopausal women with low libido, run over 120 days. Across the wider review of trials, both premenopausal and postmenopausal women improved on sexual function scores after one to three months.

✅ Zinc, 30mg. The level behind the trial in Reason 2, where every domain moved.

✅ Magnesium, 200mg. For the nervous system side of this, the part that has to come down before anything else can come back up.

✅ Chrysin 75mg, Horny Goat Weed 50mg, Longjack 50mg, Saw Palmetto 50mg, Hawthorn 50mg, Cissus Quadrangularis 50mg. Six more, each one visible, each one accounted for.

Three capsules before bed. Nothing to time, nothing to track, nothing to explain to anybody.

It is made in the USA, and it is free of gluten, allergens and GMOs.

7. What It Actually Feels Like When It Comes Back, And How Long That Honestly Takes

I am going to be straight with you about the timeline, because everyone else in this category lies about it.

In the zinc research, one month was not enough. The effect was clear by month two and month three. The tribulus trial ran a hundred and twenty days. The review found change between one and three months.

So this is a two cycle product. If someone promises you your marriage back by Friday, they are selling you something that does not exist.

Here is what women describe when it does come back, and it is almost never the thing they expected.

It does not arrive as fireworks. It arrives as the absence of bracing.

He puts a hand on your back while you are at the sink, and you notice, three seconds later, that you did not tense. You went to bed at the same time as him and it was not a decision you had to make. You are on the sofa and you move toward him instead of leaving four inches of careful space. Somebody makes a joke and you feel twenty-nine for a second.

And then one ordinary Thursday you initiate, and afterward you lie there and realize you have not felt like yourself in that particular way for a very long time.

One more number before you go.

In a nationally representative sample of American women, low desire ran from around twenty-six percent of premenopausal women to over half of naturally menopausal women. And when researchers ask why women never raised it with a doctor, the most common answer is embarrassment.

So millions of women are sitting in the same silence tonight, each one certain she is the only one, each one certain it is her fault.

You are not the only one. And it was not your fault.

The Bottom Line

Put the blame down. You have been carrying it for years and it was never yours.

It was a hormone curve nobody measured. A model you were wrongly graded against. Two prescriptions nobody warned you about. And a load nobody counts as work.

None of that is a verdict on your marriage, and none of it is a verdict on you.

What you want now is straightforward:

✅ Zinc and magnesium at levels the research actually used

✅ Tribulus at 750mg, the dose from the trial, in one visible number

✅ Every milligram printed, so you can check it against the papers yourself

✅ Two full cycles, because that is when the research found the change

✅ Three capsules before bed, and nothing else to manage

You have two options from here.

You can close this tab, the way you closed the other ones, and go to bed twenty minutes after him again tonight.

Or you can give your body two cycles with Femme Vital+ Libido Bloom and find out how much of this was chemistry all along.

If your nights feel exactly the same after two cycles, you get every cent back and you keep the bottle. No forms, no photos, and nobody asking you to describe your own marriage to a stranger. You have done enough explaining.

How To Run It, Start To Finish

This is the whole protocol. Three capsules, before bed, every night, for two to three cycles.

Cycle 1. The nervous system settles first. Most women notice sleep and the days before their period before they notice anything else. The research did not find a significant effect at one month, so this cycle is groundwork.

Cycle 2. This is the window where the trials started separating from placebo. Bracing softens. Being touched stops feeling like a request you have to answer.

Cycle 3. The full effect window in the literature. Desire that shows up on its own rather than being scheduled around.

Three bottles covers the full window, which is why most women start there rather than buying one and stopping in the exact month the research says nothing has happened yet.

Keep it on the nightstand, next to the water. That is the entire routine.

What Women Are Saying

Early notes from the first production run

Danielle R.

Cycle one I mostly noticed I was sleeping better and the days before my period were softer. Cycle two was the one. I stopped bracing when he touched me and I did not even notice it happening until he did.

Megan T.

I am 44 and I had decided this was just what happens. Two months in, I initiated, and afterward I laid there feeling like I had gotten something back that I had already grieved.

Priya S.

What sold me was the label. I could actually look up the tribulus dose and find the study. Nothing else in that aisle let me do that.

Karen W.

The week before my period used to run my whole month. It still comes, it just does not decide everything anymore.

Alison M.

Nine years on an antidepressant and nobody ever mentioned this to me once. I brought the article to my doctor and we had a real conversation for the first time.

Rachel D.

Honestly, month one I thought I had wasted my money. I am glad I read the part about two cycles, because month two was completely different.

Tanya B.

We had gotten polite with each other. That is the word. Polite. It is not polite anymore.

Jen K.

Three capsules at night next to the water glass. That is it. I have failed every routine that needed more than that.

Sofia L.

I am perimenopausal and I was told I was too young for any of this to be hormonal. Turns out that is not what the research says at all.

Brooke H.

My energy came back before anything else did. By 8pm I was not apologizing for being useless anymore.

Nicole A.

I ordered three because of the timeline and I would tell anyone to do the same. Buying one bottle means quitting in the exact month the studies say nothing happens yet.

Christina P.

It did not feel like a switch. It felt like the volume slowly coming back up on something I had stopped listening for.

Laura Bennett

I read this at 1am with my brightness turned down, exactly like you described, and then I cried. I genuinely thought I was the only one.

Steph Alvarez

Question. I have been on the pill since I was 19 and I am 37 now. Is it worth taking this while I am still on it or is that pointless?

Yvonne Carter

The housework study. I had to put my phone down for a minute. Forty-three percent of the effect was whether you have started to see him as another person you manage. That is my entire marriage explained in one sentence.

Dana Whitfield

I sent that paragraph to my husband with no message attached. We talked for two hours.

Renee Fontaine

Month one I felt nothing and almost stopped. Reading that the research found nothing significant at one month either is the only reason I kept going. Month two was different.

Amy Sullivan

Thank you for saying this. I am on day 26 and I was about to give up.

Marta Ruiz

Forty-one, two kids, and I had fully decided this was just who I am now. Turns out nobody ever measured the one hormone that explains it. I am furious and relieved at the same time.

Claire Halvorsen, ND

Furious and relieved is the exact combination I see in my office. Both feelings are earned.

What The Research Actually Found

6
Clinical studies behind the zinc dose

Women studied across that research
750mg
Tribulus, the dose used in the trial
2 to 3
Cycles before the full effect showed up
Published research, not customer surveys

Cycle 1 is groundwork. Most women notice sleep and the days before their period first. In the zinc research the effect at one month was not significant, so expect this month to feel quiet.

Cycle 2 is where the trials started separating from placebo. This is usually when women describe the bracing softening.

Cycle 3 is the full effect window in the literature.

If you buy one bottle and stop, you stop in the exact month the research says nothing has happened yet.

1. IT GOES AT THE WANTING, NOT THE MOOD AROUND IT. Most products in this category work on lubrication, relaxation or sleep. Useful, and not the same thing as desire.

2. THE DOSES ARE THE ONES IN THE STUDIES. Zinc at 30mg. Tribulus at 750mg, the dose from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial run over 120 days.

3. NOTHING IS HIDDEN IN A BLEND. All 9 ingredients carry their own milligram number, so you can check every one against the papers.

4. IT IS BUILT FOR TWO CYCLES. Which is what the research found, rather than what marketing prefers.

This is a supplement, not a replacement for anything you have been prescribed, and it is not a reason to change a prescription.

Do not stop either medication on the strength of an article. Do take the SHBG and the sexual side effect questions to your prescriber, because both are well documented and both are worth a real conversation.

If you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medication, check with your doctor before starting.

No. That is the entire reason it exists.

Magnesium 200mg, Zinc 30mg, Tribulus Terrestris 750mg, Chrysin 75mg, Horny Goat Weed 50mg, Longjack 50mg, Saw Palmetto 50mg, Hawthorn 50mg, Cissus Quadrangularis 50mg.

Nine ingredients, nine numbers. Made in the USA, free of gluten, allergens and GMOs.

Take it every night for two full cycles. If your nights and your hard days feel exactly the same, every cent comes back and you keep the bottle.

No forms, no photos, and nobody asking you to describe your own marriage to a stranger.
